Dating back to the 18th Century, The Red Tile was originally an old-fashioned, thatch-roofed watering hole. Fashionably updated during the Bridgwater tile industry boom, the pub received its famous red roof and was consequently given a new name by American pilots during World War II.

Already impressed by its heritage, my partner and I were eager to sample its culinary delights. We started our meal with antipasti - a delightful combination of cold meats, fresh bread and olives, which proved the perfect choice for a warm summer's day. For my main course I plumped for a fresh T-bone steak: a truly impressive piece of meat, it was accompanied by worthy portions of delicious mushrooms, tangy onion rings and crispy chips. My partner asked the chef for his recommendation, which led her to choose the fresh fish pie. Topped with an enormous prawn and filled with a variety of fish, it pleased the eye as well as the tastebuds. For dessert I managed to squeeze in a freshly made rhubarb crumble with lashings of cream - it was suitably sweet and a filling finish to a fantastic meal.

Boasting two bar areas and ample parking, and within easy reach of the M5, The Red Tile has a wonderful traditional feel. This is a place in which you can truly feel at home.
