The Lamb

Surrounded by lush green countryside, right in the heart of Axbridge, The Lamb is a village pub that welcomes all with a smile from staff who take the time to remember their customers by name. Low ceilings, oak beams and trinkets give the restaurant a traditional, home-from-home appeal, and you can further experience the sense of history revisited with a game of old-fashioned skittles - if you're especially skilful, there is even a Somerset league you can join. Soft lighting and roaring fires in the original fireplaces create a sense of warmth and intimacy throughout the restaurant, and for sunnier days, there's a beautiful garden at the rear.

The extensive menu offers something for everyone, with starters ranging from homemade soup of the day to duck spring rolls with plum sauce. The Mexican chicken with tortillas and fragrant rice is sensational, and the popular Butcombe beef dish is a favourite, as is the house fish and chips. The Lamb also offers a curry of the day - extremely popular amongst the regulars.

If you're blessed with a particularly hearty appetite, the dessert board lists a number of tasty treats, including baked cheesecake with raspberry topping. For those who prefer a lighter sweet, there are 11 flavours of local Marshfield ice cream.
