Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
1 The Nydon, Catcott, Bridgwater, TA7 9HQ
The Crown Inn is a rustic old country pub just off the A39, deep in the heart of the Somerset Levels and halfway between Glastonbury and Bridgwater. Bob and Row Kingston have breathed life back into this charming traditional pub, and thanks to them it remains an integral part of village life. As you approach the pub, you'll see an old clock and a wagon wheel adorning the great stone frontage; the interior oozes classic country-pub charm, with low ceilings and rustic beams. The kitchen, led by Row and a small team of staff, runs like clockwork; and every dish is lovingly made by hand. Choose from light lunchtime specials, or a more extensive menu; a daily specials menu provides further choice, while a grill menu features an array of mouth-watering, locally produced, fully matured steaks, including an amazing 20oz mixed grill. Carnivores will be delighted to hear that the Crown Inn sources premium meats from the local butcher, who rears his own meat. Of course, no traditional pub is complete without a Sunday lunch; and the Crown's Sunday carvery is second to none, with succulent premium joints, a dazzling array of fresh vegetables, crispy homemade Yorkshire puddings and homemade gravy. If you still need a little more persuasion, then here are a few more reasons to visit the Crown: the pub boasts a function room, a skittle alley and a large beer garden and play area. A super range of real ales will keep beer lovers happy, while the creative specials board offers a tempting array of delights to please vegetarians and fish lovers.
