The Landford Poacher
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Southampton Road, Landford, SP5 2EE
On the edge of the New Forest, The Landford Poacher welcomes customers with an open log fire and candles flickering on the tables. Its traditional interior has a stylish yet homely feel, with old maps and prints of the Landford area adorning the walls. With plenty of delicious-sounding options on the blackboard menu, we took a while to decide and nibbled on olives and garlic bread in the meantime. The restaurant takes pride in using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. My companion chose the salmon and anchovy fishcakes, which were served with a lime butter sauce - it proved to be a perfect combination. Another speciality here is the Black Rock grill, where you can sizzle your own steaks at the table - a wonderful dining experience. The dessert menu was to die for, and the creme brûlée - my personal test of a good restaurant - was cooked to perfection, and an excellent freshly ground coffee finished off the evening. The main business at The Poacher is food, but there is a small bar area with a great selection of newspapers and board games for those who call in for a quiet pint. We returned the very same week, in fact, and battled out a game of scrabble sitting close to the large log fire - the perfect place to be on a wet autumn night.
