The Bistro on Fowey's main street models itself around a Continental theme, with smart, French-inspired decor and jazz playing in the background. The menu was concise and offered plenty to choose from, with main courses from £13 to £20 and starters and desserts at around £6. A fixed-price menu was also available for those seeking a deal. Everything we sampled was flavoursome and plentiful and we left thoroughly satisfied. Front-of-house staff were friendly and attentive and allowed the perfect pause between courses. To start, we sampled the cheese soufflé, which was divine and came with a delightful twist of caramelised red onion at the bottom. We followed this with creamy asparagus risotto and tender steak; in both cases the dishes were well presented and demonstrative of a skilled hand in the kitchen. The flavour of the fresh asparagus was allowed to shine and the consistency of the risotto was just right. Served with fries, salad and a Béarnaise sauce, the steak was rich, juicy and cooked exactly as requested. Moreover, with portions like this, side orders were not needed. Dessert was heavenly - sorbet of pear and chocolate and strawberry jelly with elderflower infused cream both provided a delightful end to the meal. The Bistro provides a very enjoyable dining experience - needless to say, we'll be back.
