The Rummer is the godfather of Bristol cocktail bars, and has been at the forefront of the booze scene for over a decade. Upon entering this historic listed building, you can’t help but be a little overwhelmed yet enticed by the quality spirits that cover every inch of the wall behind the bar. Table service is offered throughout the day, whether you’re dining from the eclectic bar menu or just enjoying cocktails. If you dive into the bar menu, be sure to sample the black pudding Scotch egg, which wins many fans. If you head down the stone stairway to the medieval cellars, you’ll find a microdistillery producing Bristol Dry Gin on one side and a tasting room on the other. Gin tastings are held every Friday and Saturday, and need to be booked in advance due to their popularity. The tastings are hosted by the head or second distiller, covering all the best local gins and sometimes a few surprise distillates.
