Since opening, Bristol’s Mud Dock Café has made quite a name for itself and it’s easy to see why. Perched on the waterside, the café fuses industrial style with contemporary design. Thanks to the large windows, this charming venue affords spectacular views of the floating harbour, the city and Bristol’s iconic cranes from every angle and in all weathers.

Our visit allowed us to make the most of Mud Dock’s terrace, where we watched hot air balloons floating majestically in the evening sky. Heading inside, we were greeted by friendly, attentive service and were treated to some of the best food we’ve had in a long time. After choosing some superb cocktails, I started with spiced lamb meatballs with walnut Romanesco, while my partner opted for the broad bean falafels with beetroot hummus, followed by a Moroccan lamb burger with harissa and Greek yoghurt. Spoilt for choice with all the vegetarian options, I eventually plumped for the roasted cauliflower and corn with spicy tomato and Somerset Cheddar. The sweet finale came in the form of dark chocolate and walnut brownie with a scoop of ice cream; a decadent end to a wonderful dining experience.

Mud Dock Café’s superb service and first-rate fare made for a perfect evening, and it’s clear that they’re doing something right, being packed to the rafters even on a weekday. It’s also a first-rate venue for private parties of up to 120.
