Living in Bristol, we of course know Mud Dock as the place to go for an after-work drink in the sunshine – there’s arguably no finer spot in the city than the Mud Dock terrace on a sunny day. But who knew we were living so close to one of the best cosy dinner spots in the city?

From our seat overlooking the water we admired the charming setting of Mud Dock, which features fairy lights, vast windows and tables effortlessly catering for cosy tables of two as well as large groups – this is a great place for a celebration. The staff could not be more friendly, guiding us through the tantalising array of specials and helping us choose the perfect glass of wine to accompany our meals. After some serious deliberation, I opted to start with flatbread served with beetroot hummus and a deliciously creamy roasted corn and jalapeño dip. My husband couldn’t resist the tempura king prawns. He chose his main course from the specials board, plumping for the perfectly cooked pavé of salmon with spicy tomato tagliatelle. From the main menu, I chose warm new potatoes with asparagus spears and halloumi, served with harissa tahini and pine nuts. Though we clearly didn’t need dessert, the superb quality of the first two courses made it impossible to turn down. I devoured my oatmeal and white chocolate cookie and ice cream sandwich, while my husband raved about his baked apple, salted caramel and Greek yoghurt pot.

For superlative food, top service and an unbeatable location, you can’t do better than Mud Dock Café. We can’t wait to return.
