In pretty Quakers Friars, at the heart of Bristol city’s shopping quarter, Brasserie Blanc is tucked away in a stunning Grade I listed medieval building. Recently refurbished, the interior is a calm oasis decorated with muted tones and select vintage pieces – just the place to unwind after a day’s shopping. The new terrace area is a verdant spot to soak up some sun and dine al fresco, or simply de-stress with friends over a bottle of French wine.
The ﬁnest, freshest dishes grace the tables at Brasserie Blanc, and those who dine here often return, making it a go-to favourite for lunch, dinner and everything in between. The style is classic French with Mediterranean inﬂuences, and the menu changes every six months in keeping with the best of the season’s ingredients.
There is a range of menus to choose from including an extensive à la carte, a Sunday roast, a prix-ﬁxe menu and daily changing chef’s specials. The set menu is priced at a very reasonable £11.95 for two-courses (and you can add a pud for just £3.50). You might start proceedings with the likes of pea, mint and marjoram soup, or potted home-smoked trout, horseradish cream, crème fraîche and toasted baguette, before tucking into a delicious main course. Pan-fried Cornish sole with kale, new potatoes and saffron mouclade sauce is a light dish full of fresh seafood ﬂavours. Meanwhile, conﬁt pork leg, served with braised baby gem lettuce, spring vegetables and smooth mashed potato is a brilliant example of Brasserie Blanc’s classic culinary ﬂair. A spinach and curly endive salad with Jervaulx blue cheese dressing and croutons, followed by spring vegetable risotto makes for an enticing seasonal choice. You’ll ﬁnd it hard to resist dessert with the likes of orange and almond cake with orange sauce on offer – utterly mouth-watering.
