The Burger Joint on Bristol’s famous Whiteladies Road is a first-rate independent restaurant that’s earned an enviable reputation for serving some of the best burgers in Bristol. Thanks to the passion of owner Dan Bekhradnia and the delicious, unique burgers served, The Burger Joint has grown to three restaurants within in Bristol. Taking our seats outside, we joined the revellers soaking up the sun and enjoying the laid-back atmosphere. I sipped an elderflower and mint presse – the perfect refreshment for a warm summer’s evening – while my partner selected a Fortitude ale from local brewer Bristol Beer Factory, a smooth amber ale with deliciously robust flavours. The Burger Joint’s concept is simple: create your own bespoke burger using their unique tick list menu to select your ingredients – there’s a fantastic selection for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. Produce is sourced from top Bristol suppliers including Ruby & White butchers, which can be found just opposite The Burger Joint on Whiteladies Road, and provenance is at the heart of everything the team does.

To kick things off we shared a mountainous pile of nachos, loaded with fresh guacamole, sour cream, piquant salsa, jalapeños and melted cheese; it left us eagerly anticipating our mains. Our burgers arrived and the huge portions continue. I created a classic burger combination comprising a tender 6oz beefburger patty with smoked applewood Cheddar, streaky bacon and beer-battered onion rings served in a wonderfully glossy brioche bun with peanut butter and mayo. It was everything I’d hoped for; the quality of the ingredients combined with perfect execution ensures that these burgers stand out from the rest, while hearty portions mean you get great value for money. My partner was just as enthusiastic about his creation: a wild boar burger stacked with Monterey Jack cheese, sautéed onions and pineapple, and our sides of sweet potato chips and Parmesan and truffle fries were worth the trip alone. Like the regulars, we’ll be coming back for more – with hundreds of possible flavour combinations we certainly won’t get tired of the menu.
