Take a stroll down Swanage's bustling High Street and you'll find the charming, family-run White Horse Inn, situated just 50 yards from the sea. Not only is this lively venue known as the place to go for great live music and entertainment, it also boasts six en-suite guest rooms, wide-screen televisions showing comprehensive sports coverage, a well-stocked bar offering Cask Marque ales and a superb separate restaurant that can be booked for functions.

An award-winning chef is at the helm in the kitchen, creating a plethora of wholesome traditional and grill dishes using fresh, quality produce. To start we shared a plate of potato wedges, chicken strips, onion rings and garlic bread served with tasty barbecue and sweet chilli dips. Next, I devoured the homemade steak and ale pie main, which featured a delightfully generous amount of succulent chunks of steak - classic British comfort food at its very best. My partner, meanwhile, couldn't get enough of the tender 8oz sirloin steak. We made sure we left room to savour yummy treacle sponge and chocolate pudding, both of which came served with lashings of custard. The Shakespeare family have run The White Horse Inn for the last 16 years - with fare like this on offer, I predict they will be serving the diners of Swanage for many more years to come
