Recently taken over by new management, The Crows Nest Inn in Swanage Bay is doing a roaring trade and has been awarded a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence. Decorated in natural tones, this bright and airy restaurant has a beach-café feel, appropriate for a pub that is only a few hundred metres from the shore. Service is polite and attentive and the locally sourced food is both tasty and very reasonably priced.
Popular starters on the concise menu include dishes with an international flavour such as deep-fried calamari or lamb koftas. Mains have a more traditional British focus – fish and chips is always a favourite – and also include more sophisticated options such as chicken in tarragon sauce. The homemade beefburgers are particularly good and are served with adorable little jars of chilli jam and mayonnaise. The Crows Nest also does a great roast on Sundays.
A range of craft ale and other beer is available on tap, as well as wine, spirits, Tea Pigs tea and real coffee. Happy hour can be enjoyed from 4pm to 6pm on weekdays and there’s a buy-one-get-one-free lunch deal on mains and salads every Monday from 1pm to 3pm. The Crows Nest lays on regular live music events, and special occasions can be catered for in the restaurant. The pub is dog-friendly – so you can chill out in the pretty beer garden with a pint and the pooch at your feet after a stroll along the coast.
