Steeped in history, The Bankes Arms provides a feast for the mind as well as the tastebuds. The stunning ivy-covered exterior has remained unchanged since the 1920s and a step inside reveals features from as long ago as 1549. Feed your imagination with shadowy stories of the exploits of William Lawrence, early proprietor of The Bankes, who purportedly augmented his stocks with illicit goods - all under the noses of newly introduced coastguards. For those who prefer more morally upright pursuits, The Bankes Arms is in close proximity to a variety of amenities - try your hand at horse riding on the beach, take the Sandbanks ferry to Poole, or visit the infamous Old Harry Rocks, which have caused many a shipwreck over their long history.

With ten charming bedrooms, this is the perfect place to reside while you explore everything this beautiful section of the Jurassic Coast has to offer. But, with such a range of delicious food and drink on offer, you may struggle to pull yourself away from The Bankes Arms itself. Expect local ingredients made into the most delectable and heart-warming of dishes - fresh Poole Bay crab, New Forest game casserole and hot chocolate fudge cake. Also home to the Isle of Purbeck Brewery, the inn provides the perfect way to relax, with a foaming glass of home-brewed ale in front of the open fire. For a real celebration of these fine ales, attend the four-day Isle of Purbeck beer festival held every August - with over 80 barrels of real ale and live music and entertainment, it's no wonder it is so popular. The brewery also produces a range of real-ale mustard, pickles and sauces, so you can take the taste home with you.

With so much on offer, it's easy to see why this stunning venue has won a wealth of accolades, from the prestigious AA 'Good Seafood Restaurant' award to the slightly more outlandish 'Real Open Fireplace' award. But whether it's succulent crab or sizzling coals you're after, one thing's guaranteed - a truly memorable and enlightening experience on the Dorset coast.
