The Chequers Inn
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
Upon entering The Chequers Inn we felt immediately at home. It’s a wonderful establishment that has all the charm and character of an old English pub, combined with a refined and spacious restaurant area. Surrounded by picturesque Dorset countryside, The Chequers Inn has everything you’d look for in a country pub: fresh, tasty food, a cosy ambience and a plethora of drinks and snacks.
The menu changes regularly ensuring that you’ll always find the freshest seasonal food on your plate. We started with a delicious Mediterranean-inspired dish of grilled halloumi on a bed of olives and sundried tomatoes, alongside melt-in-the-mouth confit pulled duck complemented by blow-torched orange segments. For our main courses we kept things traditional and delighted in thick gammon served with two fresh eggs and chunky chips, and deliciously flaky fish with chips and creamy mushy peas. Each dish was superb – a great testament to the skill of the kitchen brigade. We made sure to save room for dessert, treating ourselves to a decadent chocolate and amaretto tart and lemon and honey cheesecake – the perfect option for those looking for a fresh, zesty finish.
The pub’s cosy nooks are perfect for intimate dinners, while the bright conservatory area allows plenty of space for larger get-togethers. There’s also a corner with children’s toys, making this a great spot for families too.
