Two years ago, Daniel and James took over this historic venue. Following rebranding and a lot of hard work, the Rope & Anchor was born. This charming pub is perfectly positioned just one street away from bustling Poole Quay. The menu reflects the pub’s harbourside location, and features a selection of fresh fish and seafood dishes.

We began with a selection of tapas-style starters from the newly launched menu. A selection including smoky ribs, mussels and crab claws was presented to us, alongside calamari rings and wedges of creamy Brie. Each plate was delicious, and the sticky ribs in particular were exceedingly moreish, the meat simply falling from the bone. We chose our mains from the weekly changing specials board. I was tempted by the grilled lobster – which I will definitely be returning to sample – but couldn’t resist the sound of the asparagus tortellini, which was wonderfully creamy. From the selection, my partner chose paella filled with juicy king prawns, smoked salmon and asparagus. Needless to say, we ate every bite of each. A shared Jaffa cake-inspired sticky orange cake with a generous helping of custard rounded our meal off well.

We left planning our next visit, happy that we had discovered such a gem.
