Jutting out into the lake is a stunning two-tier, recently refurbished restaurant, inviting you to bask in the glow of sunset and enjoy views of swans as they glide across the water in beautiful Poole Park.

Offering breakfasts and light lunches from a very reasonable £6, this place offers prestige without the matching price tags.

Afternoon teas cost as little as £8.75 per person, while Sunday lunches are available from £9.95, but the pièce de résistance only shows its face on Wednesday evenings, with a weekly changing specially selected six-course taster menu with wine pairings, all for just £35 a head. You'll begin with the amuse-bouche, which on the evening we visited was a creamy butternut squash soup accompanied by a trebbiano - as rich as it comes. The starter, a more wholesome dish, saw New Forest goat's cheese with slices of chorizo, heirloom tomato purée and slices of truffle alongside a French colombard.

The intermediate course was a light pan-fried brill served on linguine with a Sicilian chardonnay, followed by the palate cleanser - a raspberry Champagne sorbet that was deliciously sweet.
The main course saw rich and wonderfully textured pork belly and Poole Bay lobster served on purple potatoes with a delectable cabernet sauvignon, shortly followed by the gluttonous five-piece dessert-tray, including jellies and cheesecake, served with British Pimm's Royale. With food like this on offer, Sevens Boatshed is a definite must-visit
