Koh Thai Tapas was born in Dorset in 2009. It was a restaurant to break Thai eating conventions as the first to offer authentic Thai food, cooked by native Thai chefs, yet served in the European-style of tapas dining, appealing to sociable and adventurous diners. Here was a place where the holy flavours of Thai cuisine could be shared and sampled tapas-style with fiery cocktails, far-flung beers and world-class music. Koh has quickly made a name for itself as a place for everyone to eat and enjoy; a place at once authentic, beautiful, unpretentious, relaxed and refined.
Since the start of Koh in 2009 the team has aimed to evolve the concept – trying out new ideas and themes. Koh Noi is the alternative concept to Koh Thai – a tiny island playground where there is a bit more focus on the bar and where the tapas concept runs its course, with everything on the menu tapas size. You’re guaranteed to enjoy it. Koh Noi Lilliput was launched as the jewel in the crown of the tranquil high street of Lilliput. Carefully renovated with beautiful exposed brickwork and an iconic bar, it has become a regular hot spot for many of the locals and visitors alike. You’ll find it a buzz on any given night.
If you are popping in for a taste of Thai, the 24-hour ribs come highly recommended, as does Koh’s own chicken satay. For a main course, you can’t go wrong with the penang curry – a variant of the red Thai curry that is thick, salty and sweet, with a nutty peanut flavour. The penang curry paste is simmered with coconut milk, palm sugar, fish sauce and kaffir lime leaves, then garnished with red chillies and fresh Thai basil leaves for a beautiful mix of exotic flavours.
On the carefully crafted cocktail menu, favourites include a fruity gin-based Summer Daze with lime, passionfruit and Midori Melon liqueur or a long vodka-based drink: the Koh Samui Cooler. If none of the beautifully presented cocktails on the menu take your fancy, ask the experienced bartenders to mix up your own bespoke beverage. There’s also a selection of beer, cider and wine to complement your food.
