The Dome

Hoe Road, Plymouth, PL1 2NZ

The Dome can be found along the iconic Plymouth Hoe, close to the Tinside Lido. The distinctive venue is named after its ceiling – a 30-foot-high glass dome that floods the bar with soft light. The unique curved architecture of the building and the floor-to-ceiling windows afford visitors stunning, panoramic sea views. On fine days you may prefer to sit on the outdoor terrace, which looks onto Plymouth Sound.

This AA-rosette-awarded restaurant makes an art of turning excellent local seafood into outstanding cuisine, while maintaining impressively reasonable prices. You might sample fresh crab salad before tucking into classic fish and chips accompanied by minted pea ice cream. If you’d like to sample a range of seafood treats, opt for the fritto misto – five different types of fish, deep-fried in crisp tempura batter. The well-stocked bar means that you can pair your meal with real ale, craft beer, wine, or even a tasty cocktail. To finish, tuck into one of the excellent desserts or enjoy a selection of local Devon cheese served with red onion marmalade, celery and grapes.

The Dome isn’t only popular for fish and chips – visitors can also enjoy a delightful afternoon tea. As well as homemade scones, rich clotted cream and jam, these luxury teas include three different types of cake, panna cottas, and delicate finger sandwiches with a range of delicious fillings.
