On Plymouth's Sutton Harbour, you'll find The Dolphin House Brazzerie sitting pretty amongst the Barbican's historic buildings. At this beautifully converted former warehouse, guests can enjoy stunning views of the yachts in the harbour from the comfort of the spacious, light and airy restaurant. Since opening in 2011, The Dolphin House Brazzerie has received a wealth of accolades, including a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence in 2015, Taste of the West Gold Award in 2014 and 2015 and Les Routiers' Restaurant of the Year award in 2014, and its chef was awarded the Craft Guild of Chefs' Rising Star title.

On our recent visit, the staff were engaging, helpful and knowledgeable and were happy to talk us through the eclectic, regularly changing menu of modern British cuisine. The Dolphin House Brazzerie's team of artisan chefs aims to create first-rate food using as much local and sustainable produce as possible - including sustainable fish caught using the Marine Conservation Society's guidelines, which features on the fish specials board - and this focus on the provenance of ingredients has earned the restaurant an ever-increasing band of loyal regulars.

We could certainly understand why so many return here time and again when our wonderfully presented starters arrived - rich jellied ham hock and Godminster cheese terrine with garlic and pineapple pickle and house bread for me, and an unusual yet fabulous dish of West Country scallops with chickpeas, yoghurt and cucumber for my companion. Our main courses were of a similarly high standard. Although tempted by Creedy Carver free-range duck, Devon outdoor-reared pork and West Country lamb, I plumped for succulent chicken breast with fragrant laksa salt and pepper squid, coconut and coriander soba noodles and pak choi. The 28-day-matured Devon steak served across the table was pronounced a triumph.

We unfortunately couldn't quite manage pudding, but will certainly be back to try such sweet treats as sponge pudding, toffee chocolate fondant, and poached pears with mascarpone burnt cream. A board of locally sourced cheese with fruit and chutney is available for those wanting to finish on a savoury note. As well as pudding, we're also planning on sampling something from the superb selection of dessert wines, Port and liqueur coffees on our next visit - perhaps we'll see you there
