Perranuthnoe, Penzance, TR20 9NP

Said to be one of the oldest inns in Cornwall, the Victoria Inn at Perranuthnoe is an excellent choice of venue for a revitalising lunch or unhurried evening meal. As the restaurant counts a comforting fireplace that's lit on cold days, a suntrap terraced garden area for wonderful warm weather and accommodation with all the mod cons amongst its many qualities, it's only natural to expect food and drink that lives up to the standards of its surroundings. Thankfully, the Victoria houses a kitchen team that can provide all you'd want in this regard. Settle in for something to eat and, after a spot of complimentary freshly baked bread, starter choices such as the cumin-spiced cauliflower fritters served with a chickpea and lentil dhal and seared Cornish scallops with carrot purée, fennel and black pudding will be flying out of the kitchen for your enjoyment. Follow with a plate of south coast Dover sole alongside garden peas and samphire for a wonderfully fresh seafood experience (much appreciated and unsurprisingly good, considering the coastal town location), or, if you're like me, the garlic-and-herb-roasted free-range chicken with a fondant potato, spring greens and rosemary sauce is a natural choice. Round out the experience with a dreamy dessert, or maybe simply retire to the bar to decide on a favourite from the fine wine list or selection of local ales, ciders and lagers. The choice, as they say, is yours
