The Old Thatched Cottage
Known among locals as one of Weston-super-Mare’s best restaurants, the long-established Old Thatched Cottage is a charming restaurant delivering a unique blend of classic English dining with a Mediterranean twist. Instantly charmed by our jovial host, my partner and I were guided through the classically decorated restaurant, greeted as old friends.
We were subsequently presented with the day’s specials of beautiful yet simple dishes, centred on the daily catch. After much deliberation, my partner and I plumped for a shared starter of mini Greek mezze, comprising grilled halloumi, loukaniko, loundza ham and pitta bread with a refreshing tzatziki dip. We also shared freshly caught scallops paired with chorizo and black pudding. My partner sampled the succulent fillet of sea bass served with balsamic-roasted shallots and lemon sauce, while I opted for the delicious whole lemon sole drizzled with lemon and butter sauce. Our charming host guided us through a hand-picked wine list, helping us choose the perfect pairing: a crisp Spanish albariño. All of the dishes at The Old Thatched Cottage are created using the freshest ingredients, championing simplicity to let the locally sourced produce shine. We concluded our meal with indulgent white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake and creamy vanilla crème brûlée. With a stunning terrace overlooking the seafront, attentive service, and delectable food, The Old Thatched Cottage is a hidden gem not to be missed.
