The Half Moon
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
The Half Moon is a heart-warming watering hole that is part of the hospitable Hall & Woodhouse brand. Step through the door and be welcomed into a sophisticated yet familiar atmosphere that will make you feel instantly at home.
This foodie hotspot is clearly enjoyed by a range of diners, as on our visit we were surrounded by families, couples, walkers with their dogs and groups of friends. Choosing a quality ale was easy and we enjoyed pints of Badger beer while deliberating the menu. Though tempted by the sharer starters, we began with sweet chilli chicken wings and minty lamb kofte kebabs. To follow, I sampled the award-winning steak and Tanglefoot ale pie served with mash and crunchy vegetables. The burger menu provided a large selection from which my companion chose the chicken breast in a crusty roll with a great choice of sides. We were glad we made room for the raspberry and white chocolate crème brûlée adorned with glistening brown sugar and served aflame. As a self-confessed chocoholic, I simply couldn’t pass up the rich chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream, which proved to be utterly decadent while not too heavy.
The Half Moon in Shaftesbury is a must-try for foodies and ale lovers alike. Proving its worth, this is a rare find I’d travel the length of Dorset to visit again.
