Whether you're looking for a place to relax after partaking in country pursuits such as walking, fishing and riding, or simply fancy an evening of wining and dining, a visit to the 17th-Century Museum Inn will be just the ticket. A stay in the well-appointed guest rooms will leave you feeling well-rested and ready to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and there's a wide menu of fantastic home-cooked fare to come back to after a day of walking, cycling or sightseeing.

The Museum boasts all the hallmarks of a great British inn - the bar is usually buzzing with a sociable mix of locals and visitors; the decor is stylish and cosy, with original features and a few modern flourishes here and there; and the menu is packed with seasonal dishes made with quality local ingredients. We perused the offering for some time, deliberating over the interesting mix of hearty favourites and modern, refined takes on time-honoured dishes. I eventually decided on the beautifully tender lamb rump served with baby potatoes and Mediterranean vegetables, while my partner plumped for classic fish and chips. The batter encasing the gorgeously flaky fish was crispy and light, and the chips were some of the best we'd ever eaten. We finished with a gloriously rich chocolate and Guinness torte with coffee cremeux, before taking our pints of local Sixpenny Handley Gold outside to enjoy while taking in the fresh country air
