Heddon Valley, Parracombe, EX31 4PY
A unique building resembling a Swiss chalet, The Hunters Inn is a perfect base from which to explore the wild beauty of Exmoor and the North Devon coastline. Lovely walks can be had along the coastal path, whilst the beach at Heddon's Mouth is just one mile away.

Dining at the inn is an informal affair; in winter tables near the log fire are popular, as are those on the patio or terrace in summer. Local produce is used whenever possible, with vegetarian dishes and children's portions always available. The menu offers a mixture of traditional and modern British dishes - as well as lunchtime baguettes, jackets and ploughman's - and evening specials are chalked up daily. Starters might include chicken breast and roasted red pepper terrine with toasted ciabatta, or seared goat's cheese and roasted vegetable salad with basil oil dressing. The homemade steak and ale shortcrust pie is a traditional classic, while a vegetarian option could be slow-roasted aubergine stuffed with Devon Blue cheese, broad beans, walnuts, dill and rice. Finish with the ever-popular homemade chocolate brownie or West Country cheese plate.

The Hunters Inn won the North Devon CAMRA 'Pub of the Year' award for 2009, so expect to find five or six real ales on at any one time, as well as a good wine list. Bedrooms are full of character, some with four-poster beds or balconies overlooking the garden - perfect for romantic escapes and weddings, but also good for lively weekends, Christmas breaks and family holidays.
