Situated just outside Dorking in the picturesque village of Westcott, The Prince of Wales offers diners delicious dishes and outstanding ales on tap, all in the cosy confines of one of the finest Fuller’s pubs. Whether you’re looking for a proper cooked breakfast in the morning, a superb selection of sandwiches at lunchtime or a hearty pub meal, The Prince of Wales offers firm favourites and an extensive specials menu for those looking to try something a little different.
Enjoying the relaxed setting was first on the agenda, as we sipped our drinks and read the menu. Punchy mackerel pâté with beautifully browned toast, and a salad of roast duck and marinated duck liver provided an impressive start to proceedings.
For our main courses we chose the hearty roasted cod brandade, with white wine butter sauce and samphire, and the superbly tender and slightly spiced confit duck leg complemented by taut asparagus, buttery new potatoes and rich gravy from the specials menu. Excellent cheese selections are available, as are mouth-watering desserts. The fresh fruit salad with lime syrup, and a divine white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake were the cherry on a deliciously satisfying cake.
Sitting in the comfy armchairs in the bar, real ale lovers like us can enjoy Fuller’s complete range of ales on tap. Summer visitors can make the most of the suntrap terrace, or dine in the secluded sunken garden. For large gatherings, The Prince of Wales has excellent function facilities. Regular live music and pub quizzes give this village local a real buzz, one for which it has become well known.
