Tiger's Eye at The Old Bell offers a pan-Asian fusion of exciting flavours. Conveniently located near the Gloucester cross on Southgate Street, Tiger's Eye can be found in The Old Bell, a 17th-century Jacobean mansion house. Inside, you'll find a panelled cocktail bar and modern dining venue. Starters are imaginative and dishes include freshly prepared sushi, Thai curried tofu, spinach and avocado fritters, and Japanese beef Carpaccio. I decided on the soft shell crab tempura with a homemade tartare sauce and savoured every bite. For the main course, I went all-out with a dish prepared on the Black Rock Grill. This excellent dish allows diners to select quality ingredients to be cooked to order right before their eyes on a hot volcanic rock. Choose from traditional meats such as lamb, duck and venison or try something adventurous from a selction including ostrich, kangaroo or waygu sirloin steak, each served with pan-fried potatoes or chips and salad. The accompanying dipping sauces are delicious, and I couldn't resist the peppercorn and brandy option which perfectly complemented my swordfish steak. Vegetarian options are always available and my partner decided to try the substantial and perfectly seasoned wok-fried halloumi with mixed vegetables.
