The Courtfield Arms
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
This imposing building overlooking the River Wye has been through a variety of transformations; 400 years ago it was a coaching inn, before being refurbished as a plush hotel many years later. Current landlady Paula Milton has restored this charming building to its former glory; the restaurant is elegant and cosy, and adorned with photographs by Devon-based photographer Andrew Gilbert. The menu features classic favourites. My companion was impressed with his prawn cocktail starter, while I eagerly devoured hearty soup of the day. He followed this with rich oak-smoked salmon and caper salad, while I tucked into tender chicken in a white wine, mushroom and cream sauce. Those planning a party would do well to give The Courtfield a call, as their function room is ideal for all manner of occasions. Visitors looking to enjoy a weekend away should book one of their comfy bed and breakfast guest rooms.
