On The Waterfront
The aptly named On The Waterfront is situated on Exeter’s historic quayside and housed in an old 19th-century warehouse. This popular eatery is split into two vibrant dining areas, with exposed brickwork, ambient lighting and quirky decor. There’s the Boat Room – a smaller, more intimate space with nautical touches, and the Long Room, which can be hired for functions of up to 100 people. Outside is a shaded and heated terrace overlooking the quay, with a new al fresco bar.
The eclectic menu includes tapas, nachos, burgers and pizza, as well as tempting vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. We kicked things off with a couple of tasty tapas dishes: crispy cod and chorizo cakes paired with a red pepper salsa dip, and buttermilk chicken with a delicious tomato and cumin dip. Next to arrive was my bunless Go Skinny chicken ranch burger, served with fluffy chips and a delicious garden salad. My partner went for the You’ve Pulled – a thin pizza with a barbecue base scattered with juicy pulled meats.
If you want to share, why not order the Big 3-0 – a 30inch rectangular pizza, which can be split into three different pizza varieties. With a choice of over 20 pizzas, there’s something for everyone. If you have room, we’d recommend sampling a luxury sundae: Yarde Farm ice cream slathered in sauce and topped with the likes of brownie, cookie, mixed nuts or fresh fruit.
