On The Waterfront
Boasting a prime location on Exeter’s bustling quayside, On The Waterfront is a legendary local hotspot, which recently won a Taste of the West Gold award. Inside there is a brand-new sleek and stylish bar stocked with a fine selection of local ale, wine, gin and cider. My dining partner and I sat outside on the newly refurbished patio area where we relaxed with glasses of crisp sauvignon blanc whilst taking in the gorgeous views of the River Exe.
We decided to start with two dishes from the new tapas menu, which features tasty treats from around the globe. The crispy rice noodle balls filled with squid and served with nam jim dipping sauce, and sobrassada on sourdough with honey and thyme were incredibly moreish. What’s great about the main menu is that you can personalise the Waterfront’s famous pizzas and salads to match your tastes.
As we couldn’t decide which topping to go for on our pizza, we decided to order the half and half 16inch pizza; one half was topped with punchy basil pesto, courgette ribbons and grilled asparagus, and the other with shredded confi t duck and hoisin sauce. We also created our own salad, comprising tender pulled chicken and accompanied by a delightfully tangy honey and mustard dressing. Rich coffee panna cotta with pistachio cannoli, and vegan chocolate and cherry cheesecake served alongside our Pink Punch and Blackberry Gin Fizz cocktails rounded off our meal beautifully.
