The Michael Caines Restaurant at ABode Exeter is the jewel in the crown of this stylish and historic city-centre boutique hotel. Michael Caines is from Exeter and has helped to put Devon's capital city on the map as a top foodie destination.

Start out in the Champagne bar and peruse the enticing, seasonally changing menu over a glass of something tantalising. The restaurant dining room continues the theme of stylish informality - tables are simply dressed and the artwork colourful and witty.

The food and wine, of course, are the real showpieces of the restaurant. Executive chef Ian Webber overseas a talented kitchen team that makes the best use of Devon's magnificent year-round larder. Fish comes direct from day boats at Brixham, the lamb is from Dartmoor and beef is from Devon's renowned Red Rubies. Craig has created a fantastic-value Amazing Graze lunch menu, which allows guests to design their own tasting menu.

You might sample roasted Brixham scallops with cauliflower and truffle purée with sweet raisin vinaigrette, or perhaps roast loin of local lamb with confit shoulder, boulangère potatoes, fennel purée and tapenade sauce. The wine list is intelligently chosen and a knowledgeable sommelier is on hand to help you make your choice. In addition to the à la carte menu, there are excellent-value lunch and early dinner offers as well as a sublime seven-course tasting menu that changes weekly
