Meat 59 – Exeter
Since opening in 2014, Meat 59 has become one of Devon’s go-to spots for top-notch burgers. This quirky, family-run joint took inspiration from London’s burgeoning street food scene, and it’s clear that the team takes its craft seriously.
Friendly staff and laid-back music create a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy your feast. Take a look at the menu and you’ll see that bold flavours rule the roost. All hamburger patties are hand-pressed in-house and sourced from award-winning butchers Gribbles at nearby Occombe Farm. The imaginative selection will leave you spoilt for choice, with multiple options for both vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. Opt for the decadent Truffle Shuffle, a 6oz beefburger stacked with wild mushrooms, wilted spinach, caramelised red onion and truffle mayo. If it’s fried chicken you’re after, That’s My Burger Nacho Chicken Burger is sure to hit the spot; it’s a scrumptious feast comprising a Grana Padano- and panko-breadcrumbed chicken breast with jalapeños, avocado, chipotle mayo, Monterey Jack cheese and a handful of tortilla chips. Sides are equally impressive, and include the likes of beef chilli, cheese and jalapeños dirty fries as well as the ever-popular filthy fries – slow-roasted barbecue pulled pork and cheese atop hand-cut chips. Finish your meal with a scoop of real Devon ice cream melted over a double chocolate brownie and your feast is complete. You can also order burgers to take away and indulge at home – what could be better?
