86 Longbrook Street, Exeter, EX4 6AP
Run by Sam Pounds for the last nine years, Harry's is part restaurant, part local institution. It is a very visual place, with huge windows, an open kitchen separated by stained glass, stripped wood, candles and fairy lights. You instantly feel at home when you step inside, and the young, friendly staff reinforce this feeling. Sam has built a seasonal menu inspired by international dishes from France, Italy, Mexico, Greece and the US, including a good vegetarian selection and traditional British steaks. All dishes are sourced from local suppliers and the meat is stamped with the South West Quality certification. Starters include calamari, nachos and their famous Barbie Ribs - half a rack of barbecue ribs with coleslaw - while main courses include T-bone steaks and a choice of delicious Mexican dishes including enchiladas and burritos. And their ultimate after-dinner hit is definitely the Harry's Heart Attack, containing chocolate brownies, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, marshmallows, chocolate, whipped cream and hot chocolate fudge sauce. The wide-ranging wine list showcases fine international wines, which are served by the glass or bottle. Harry's is simply great. You'll love the family-friendly service, the excellent value and the top-quality fare.
