Set on the outskirts of Exeter, Cranberry Farm is not only a convenient haven for those passing through, but a wonderful destination in its own right. We were led through the spacious restaurant area to a candlelit wooden table nestled in a cosy corner. There are plenty of options stocked behind the bar, including Badger real ale and a bountiful selection of wine. I sipped a chilled glass of sauvignon blanc and relished the tranquil atmosphere.
Tempted by the specials board, my partner eventually settled on crisp potato skins topped with tomato and onion chutney and cheesy rarebit to start, while I opted for tender lamb kofte with yoghurt and cucumber dip. For the main course, my companion delighted in the award-winning steak and Tanglefoot ale pie, which was packed with mouth-watering British steak and rich, flavoursome gravy. I was equally impressed with the vegan mac and cheese in a rich sauce made with Badger Hopping hare ale, punctuated with sundried tomatoes. Rounding things off, our friendly waitress brought over comforting banoffee sponge complemented by rum and raisin ice cream on an oat crumb, and coffee and walnut panna cotta topped with caramelised walnuts. We rounded off the evening with aromatic coffees from the Colourful Coffee Company and sat back replete and relaxed, already deciding when to book our next visit.
