Tucked away in the petite town of Verwood, just a stone’s throw from the popular Moors Valley Country Park and Forest, The Monmouth Ash lies like buried treasure waiting to be discovered. It’s a great establishment that’s worth seeking out.
The smart exterior is a welcoming sight, and a private car park makes this a convenient destination to escape to. Strolling through the spacious outdoor seating area, we remarked on what a lovely place this would be to come to on a sunny day. Inside, we discovered a cosy, rustic-style interior complete with wooden beams, bookcases and a crackling log fire. Staff are effi cient and friendly, and we were made to feel most welcome.
The menu features a range of tempting dishes that are cooked to perfection by the excellent chef, and presented well. We enjoyed a memorably delicious meal, starting with a tasty mushroom soup followed by a sumptuous grilled tuna steak Niçoise salad served pink with new potatoes, a soft boiled egg, fine beans, mixed olives, cherry tomatoes and a lemon and olive oil dressing. My partner’s sustainably sourced Badger beer-battered fish and chips was equally moreish, and we finished by sharing three mini puds: coffee and walnut panna cotta, Eton Mess, and chilled seasonal fruit crumble with custard. Each dish was as impressive as the last. Book a table or drop by and discover this hidden gem – you won’t regret it.
