The Drovers is a 16th-Century inn from which you can enjoy spectacular views of the Dorset countryside - there may be no better place to soak up the beauty of the area. The Drovers' interior impresses too - while being beautifully refurbished, it retains all the traditional appeal of ancient beams, flagstone floors and oak furniture, as well as a huge inglenook fireplace with a wonderfully homely log fire.

It's no surprise The Drovers was voted the 'Dorset Country Pub of the Year' in 2006, and has also been awarded certificates of excellence for its quality beer. The food is equally commendable - it's traditional, expertly made and locally sourced. Owners Jo and Jason even grow many of their own vegetables in their garden. The à la carte menu and daily specials board offer plenty to choose from. To start, my partner chose the homemade chicken liver paté with toast and seasonal chutney, while I opted for the garlic mushrooms served with toast, baby leaves and balsamic reduction. Next my guest was thrilled with the garlic-and-herb-marinated chicken breast - this was served on a 430- degree hot rock at the table, allowing him to cook the meat exactly to his liking. I was equally pleased with my brisket of beef in a red wine and mushroom jus.

Visit The Drovers for regular events, such as Poachers' Night or Game Night, or simply make any day a special one with a trip to picturesque Gussage All Saints and its superb local.
