Home Farm Hotel
To visit Home Farm Hotel in Wilmington, a mere five minutes’ from Honiton, is to step back in time, as you’ll see as you drive through the wonderful settlement that once constituted a farm. Today, it’s a lovely hotel set in three acres of the most beautiful Devonshire countryside.
The main building, which is a thatched Devon longhouse, is a traditional gem. Inside, there are all of the traditional features you would expect to find: wooden beams, an inglenook fireplace and stone flooring have been skilfully transformed from a farmhouse into a modern hotel, where the old and the new exist in perfect harmony. Once you’ve chosen your tipple from the cosy bar, move through to the restaurant, where peckish visitors will have a pleasant surprise. The owner’s wife is from Thailand and is a master of Thai cuisine, although there are English dishes on the menu, too. The authentic food is prepared in the kitchen with fresh vegetables, and dishes are all very reasonably priced.
There are 13 bedrooms, decorated in a country-cottage style, so you can wake up and begin the day with a hearty cooked breakfast and fresh coffee, before burning it all off fishing, mountain biking, golfing, or walking. The garden is a glorious spot for soaking up the sunshine, and once you’ve had a taste of Home Farm Hotel, you won’t want to leave.
