The Blacksmiths Arms
Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
This lovely pub is much sought after by locals, ramblers and visitors to this beautiful part of Devon. Traditional and stylish, the exposed beams draped in hops, large oak mirrors and log fire create a wonderful cosy atmosphere. The large, colourful beer garden is perfect for alfresco dining; and if you want to be entertained on a sunny afternoon you can take part in a game of boules while the children enjoy the garden play area. The Blacksmiths Arms has a reputation for serving quality food with generous portions and punchy flavours, well-kept local ales and a fine selection of wines. Owner, Alan Carter, a qualified chef, has the following motto: 'use local quality ingredients (after all we are in Devon, the larder of Europe), cook with passion and serve with character.'
Both the seasonal menu and daily changing blackboard of homemade 'pub favourites' are impressive, in particular The Blacksmiths and Devon Long House pies, which are made with organic beef from a local farm. Start making plans to visit; you are sure to enjoy this vibrant village free house where you are surrounded by the banter and atmosphere of a proper West Country pub - a gem not to be missed.
