Dating back to the 13th Century, The Highwayman's Haunt has a fascinating past; the inn was a former hideout for notorious highwayman Jack Witherington, and Cromwell and his cavalry lodged here during the Civil War. Nowadays it is the kind of pub everyone wishes was their local, boasting a menu of classic favourites, a bar stocked with a selection of quality ales, ciders and wines, and an abundance of olde-worlde charm and original features - not to mention breathtaking views across the surrounding fields and hills.

With plenty of cosy corners to snuggle up in during chillier months, and a beautifully maintained garden with a children's play area to take advantage of during summer, this is a pub to enjoy all year round. Their curry evenings are popular during autumn and winter, while the summer barbecues offering the likes of lip-smacking ribs, tender smoked chicken and tasty vegetarian specials are a hit with locals and visitors alike. Indeed, tourists would do well to make use of the pub's excellent camping facilities - you can even hire one of their ready-pitched tents. Those after a hearty meal will find dishes like chargrilled rib-eye steak, Moroccan lamb shank and Mediterranean vegetable risotto on the menu, while patrons visiting on Sunday can treat themselves to a wholesome roast lunch
