The Otter Inn
Located near the scenic Otter River, The Otter Inn is aptly named, for if you head out on a local wildlife walk, you may be lucky enough to spot otters and even beavers. The pub also makes a great place to relax and refuel after a day at the seaside or a ramble on Dartmoor, is close to Sidmouth and Exmouth, and has plenty of space to park.
The inn is run by three generations of a Scottish family, who are proud to serve whisky at the bar as well as local Otter beers. The menu offers traditional English fare made from local produce, ranging from old favourites such as homemade steak and kidney pudding, to modern classics such as barbecue ribs. Puddings are not to be missed – there’s everything from warming apple and rhubarb crumble to summery ice cream sundae.
Family is very important at The Otter, and children will love the huge garden and adventure play area, not to mention the otter picture and colouring pencils that staff are happy to provide. The children’s menu includes not just bangers and mash but also choices for more adventurous tastebuds, while the Otter’s light bites menu offers grown-ups smaller portions of dishes from the standard menu. Dogs are welcome in the laid-back bar area and there is a skittle alley that is popular with locals and can be hired out for functions.
