Pubs and Bars with Restaurants
After starters of juicy king prawns in a light tempura batter served with a zingy sweet chilli dip, and a pigeon breast, bacon and pine nut tossed salad, we were already making satisfied noises. Our main courses continued the theme of creativity and quality, and after a suitable pause we tucked into two generously portioned dishes. The Gressingham duck breast on braised red cabbage with port and redcurrant gravy was a rich and tasty treat of comforting flavours, while the flawlessly cooked and inventively presented pork tenderloin wrapped in Parma ham with grain mustard mash and thyme gravy was evidence of a chef in fine form.
Do not leave this charming rustic pub without sampling the homemade sweets. Loosen your belt if need be, but whatever you do, don't miss out on these heavenly desserts. Sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce - gooey, sweet and altogether satisfying - was rivalled only by the picture-perfect white and dark chocolate tart with whipped double cream.
Dine in style in the relaxing newly refurbished restaurant or, for that small party occasion or more intimate dinner, there is the quaint library dining area - with many interesting old books - which can seat up to 12 people. The warmer weather will tempt you to dine alfresco on the patio or in the landscaped walled garden - the ideal setting for romantic evenings.
