The Tunnel House is brimming with local historical memorabilia, interesting artefacts and keepsakes, all of which add to the character emanating from within. Owner Rupert Longsdon is an amiable host and has a real rapport with all his customers. He introduced wonderful home-cooked food to the Tunnel House six years ago and hasn't looked back since. Traditional English dishes are the order of the day but, most importantly, everything is prepared and cooked on the premises with ingredients sourced from local suppliers. The starters include delights such as seared pigeon breast, smoked haddock kedgeree and deep-fried Brie wedges. Mains present all manner of traditional favourites like fish and chips, chargrilled steak, lamb shank and a wonderful winter casserole, all of which take home cooking to a new level. Children are welcomed with a separate menu and a wonderful play area to explore during summer months, while the adjacent barn provides a useful addition for functions and wedding parties.
