This historic Cotswolds inn is home to The Chop House - a thoughtfully and beautifully renovated restaurant. The establishment's olde-worlde charm is complemented by contemporary flourishes and a laid-back atmosphere so that, upon entering, you will be struck by the impressive marriage of original fixtures with bespoke, contemporary decor. The eight luxurious en-suite rooms and adjacent cottages are similarly expertly designed.

We relaxed whilst perusing the locally sourced menu, which boasted several different cuts of meat, as well as fresh fish and shellfish. I chose the classic, wellbalanced Waldorf salad to begin, while my partner went for the succulent scallops atop sautéed leeks - an accomplished start that invigorated our tastebuds. Next came the delicate pan-fried ling with crisp bacon, leeks and peas (courtesy of the imaginative specials board), alongside oxtail stew with vibrant roasted root vegetables and sweet red cabbage. Rich, beautifully presented and full of striking flavours, these dishes cut a fine form on the dinner table. The homemade banoffee pie we shared for dessert was impossibly luscious and creamy - a real showstopper. Manager Lucinda and her team worked hard to ensure the evening was effortlessly delightful. This first-rate restaurant is more than worthy of the praise we heaped upon it as we departed.
