The Waterside sits on Flushing’s historic quay and is truly a place for all weathers and occasions. Tables outside on the sunny terrace are the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee and freshly baked scones while watching the boats go by. We ate dinner there one rainy Cornish evening. We were welcomed in by friendly staff and found our cosy nook for the night in one of the booths, next to the warm fire and with our own little window looking out to sea. Wine was promptly decided on with the help of the lovely staff and we began to deliberate over the comprehensive menu. We decided to sample some of the seafood and fish, which is landed on the quay by local day-boats – it doesn’t get much fresher than that. To start, my dining companion decided on scallops with black pudding, and hake for the main course. The fish was cooked to perfection and the presentation and service was immaculate, which is great to see in a restaurant with such an informal atmosphere. Thrilled to find it on the menu, I plumped for chef Tom’s pig cheek ravioli, which was comforting yet delicate – a fantastic starter.

The Waterside is easily accessible by car, with ample car parking outside, but it’s more fun to instead catch the ferry from Falmouth. This little gem is truly worth the visit.
