Chinese and East Asian
Eleven years ago, The Vine brought a then-novel idea to the spa town of Cheltenham: serving authentic Thai cuisine in a traditional pub setting. Today, The Vine is still going strong and prides itself on serving good quality food in a relaxed, sociable atmosphere.
When we visited on a busy Monday night, the bar was bustling with drinkers, while couples and larger groups enjoyed their evening meals. As recommended by our friendly waitress, we began by sharing the generous, appetising platter of fishcakes, chicken satay, sesame prawn toast, vegetable spring rolls, deep-fried dumplings and spicy prawn crackers. To follow, I couldn’t resist the fragrant and creamy green curry with chicken, accompanied by a side of coconut rice. My partner opted for sizzling duck in rich red wine sauce, served with pineapple, onion and green and red peppers – simply delicious. Everything was immaculately presented and well thought out, particularly the colourful duck dish, which was a feast for the eyes. To finish, the banana fritter was gooey on the inside, crispy on the outside and drizzled with sticky
honey, and the warm chocolate fudge cake melted in the mouth.
All dishes served here are expertly created by the kitchen’s team of Thai chefs, who use quality ingredients like free-range Gloucestershire chicken, farm-assured pork and local beef.
Whether you’re craving classic Thai food or a pint of real ale, you’re sure to receive an enthusiastic welcome at The Vine.
