Chinese and East Asian
Greeted and seated we enjoyed a complimentary portion of spicy crackers with sweet chilli dip while we made our selections from the menu. It was certainly a challenge, as every one of the dishes sounded sensational. Our friendly and helpful waiter came to the rescue and made a few recommendations. Our starters of butterfly prawn tempura and cee krong moo (marinated spare ribs) did not disappoint; both were tasty, succulent and plentiful. My main, gang panang, was wonderful, providing a terrific contrast of texture and flavour. My husband's green curry was also delicious and our accompanying pad Thai noodles arrived with an egg lattice topping - presentation is a skill that has been honed at the Thai Family, and not at the expense of taste. We were unable to finish everything, as the portions were so generous. Thai Family provides a menu to suit all tastes in terms of heat and flavour, and there are meat, fish and prawn dishes, as well as a substantial vegetarian menu. The drinks menu is comprehensive, with wine, beers, spirits and cocktails all available.
As the candles on the tables around the restaurant glowed, we enjoyed our blackcurrant and hibiscus tea and remarked on the excellent service - attentive but not at all intrusive, you can tell the staff all genuinely care about the restaurant. Thai Family deserves its fantastic reputation for superb food and a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, making it a perfect venue for lunch with friends or a romantic dinner.
