With perfect views of planes jetting off and landing, there is most definitely a sense of occasion surrounding The Aviator. Inside is just as impressive, with a formidable collection of aviation memorabilia on show and model aeroplanes suspended from the rafters. Richard Morris has run The Aviator for eight years, during which time the menus have evolved, becoming more ambitious. Three full-time chefs produce an impressive selection of quality fare, at unbeatable prices. There is a daily specials board, from which I tried the spicy tomato chicken with fusilli (£5.95), a flavoursome and filling dish served with perfectly cooked vegetables. My companion chose an equally satisfying dish of pork chops with cider sauce (£6.95) from the main menu. The food is beautifully presented, served on over-sized dishes. When dessert arrived, we were really flying high; the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake and the sticky toffee pudding were both delicious.

If you enjoy dining out on a Sunday lunchtime, you can't go wrong with The Aviator; a superb roast dinner is available for just £7.95. If you're an early bird there's a superb breakfast menu too, served between 9am and noon - perfect for some pre-flight sustenance. The ethos in the kitchen is clearly to provide a wide choice of dishes using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, ensuring that guests get extremely good value for money. The Aviator is a wonderfully welcoming restaurant and bar in a unique and fascinating location.
