A sparkling white Regency building, The Hotel on the Park beckons you through its classical columned portico into a contemporary space that fuses elegance with tasteful modernity. The smart decor oozes class and sophistication. Relax with an aperitif in the stylish lounge, or enjoy a cocktail at the glamorous mirrored bar before taking your place in the dining room, which features a dazzling Murano crystal chandelier.

I recommend the seductive scallops to start your experience, or you may wish to indulge in a velvety chicken terrine accompanied by crisped homemade brioche. For the main course I ordered the enticing goat's cheese beignet - artfully presented, with beetroot, pear and sweet raisins. My companion's tender fillet of beef, accompanied by creamed white beans, baby onions and beef jus, was robust and totally satisfying. My homemade ice creams and sorbets were delightful, and my companion was equally thrilled with her selection of English and French cheeses served with tangy homemade chutney and wafer-thin biscuits.

Perfectly suited for weddings and special occasions, The Hotel on the Park offers exquisite dining and accommodation in graceful surroundings. For those wishing to explore the hotel's delights for the first time, a two-course Sunday lunch is available at a very reasonable £16.95. This is sophisticated dining at its best (children under the age of 12 are not permitted).
