Settings don't get much quainter than The Old Sail Loft. This picturesque former sailmakers' workshop is at least 450 years old and may also have served as a haunt for smugglers. It's located right on the quayside, overlooking the harbour, making it ideal not just for smuggling but also for deliveries of the freshest local fish. Indeed, menu favourites include Cornish seafood chowder as a starter and catch of the day as a main. In summer, the latter may be served with a sun-blushed tomato crust on a bed of pesto mash and with a local fish and shellfish bisque. Take a look at The Old Sail Loft's website to see what other seafood, meat and vegetarian options are on offer, and don't miss their barbecue nights on Tuesdays in June. There's also a choice of mouth-watering desserts, including the popular crème brulée with chef's chocolate chip cookies, an approachable list of wines available by the glass or the bottle, and an impressive range of liqueur coffees, all served with homemade chocolate tiffin.

The food is prepared by a dedicated brigade of four chefs, all trained in-house by proprietor Dominic Sadler, and who all take pride in delighting diners with their consistently high-quality fare. While the rooms are snug and atmospheric, the venue as a whole can seat up to 80 people, so whether you're coming as a couple for a romantic date or as a party for a special occasion, The Old Sail Loft is the perfect destination. Make sure you book, as it's very popular
