With the owner and chefs hailing from Bangkok, it's not surprising that the food at these popular eateries has an authentic, flavoursome kick. Add fast, efficient service and an upbeat, unpretentious atmosphere, and you can see why Yum Yum Thai is so successful.

Thai native Nan and her Italian husband Lee have been serving up freshly prepared, MSG-free food made from free-range and organic produce for some seven years now. We tried the tom yum kung, a spicy clear soup with prawns, lemongrass and coriander; and tom kah kai, a coconut-based dish with free-range chicken and galangal to start. Both were excellent, with beautiful fragrant flavours. From the selection of sides, we ordered a portion of khanom jeep; steamed pork and prawn dumplings with water chestnut, mixed herbs and soy sauce. Washed down with a glass of one of Yum Yum Thai's organic wines (indeed all drinks available are organic), it proved to be a worthy contender to my partner's favourite dumplings from New York.

From the main menu, Nan recommended the pat kra praw kai; beef stir-fried with French beans, chilli and Thai basil, which was pleasantly piquant. The kai pat mamuang himmaparn, stir-fried chicken with dried chilli, mushrooms and cashew nuts, was also delicious. We also enjoyed a generous serving of pad Thai kung. For dessert, two homemade specials were on offer: Lee's tiramisu or Nan's green tapioca with coconut milk. Priced at £4.80, one portion is plenty to share.

Yum Yum Thai always bustles with life and energy, showing that Nan and Lee's enthusiasm for their food and customers is really paying off. The restaurant is deservedly popular, and booking is definitely recommended.
