Walking through the doors of La Campagnuola on a cold winter's evening was a pleasure indeed - a little slice of Italian style in downtown Redland. For 30 years Fillippo Spitali and his family have been serving up delicious home-cooked food. The restaurant is now run by his children, Mariangela and Vincenzo. The deceptively large restaurant is split into three areas, tastefully refurbished in cream and burgundy. A pleasantly lit bar area downstairs is perfect for family celebrations, with buffet menus available, and there's an atrium evoking warm Italian summer nights. We were drawn to the cosy mezzanine level.

Dining à la carte offers a multitude of dishes all prepared using the freshest authentic ingredients. The pizzas are great value for money and they looked delicious - from a basic Napoletana to the chef's special, with squid, artichoke and anchovies. To start, try cozze alla Siciliana - mussels in a tomato and chilli sauce. For main, the fillet steak with black pepper in a brandy and cream sauce comes with crisp, fluffy chips and crunchy salad. Italians don't mess about when it comes to dessert, and La Campagnuola is no exception. Try raspberry pavlova - a cacophony of meringue, fresh cream and plump raspberries - as light as air. A piquant lemon liqueur sent us back into the cold night with a warm glow that lasted all the way home.
