The team behind the acclaimed Zazu's Kitchen have transformed this boozer, which was previously the Robin Hood's Retreat, since taking it on last summer. The Grace's pub and gardens have enjoyed a £125,000 makeover that, judging by the feedback, has won over the locals. The pub is now buzzing most nights and weekends, particularly in the summer months when the creatively styled back garden comes into its own.

Part Continental bar, part pub for grown ups and part informal local eatery, The Grace offers a wide range of real ales, craft beers, cocktails and a quality wine list. But it's the new style of food that is rapidly establishing its word-of-mouth reputation.

One of Bristol's brightest young chefs, Wilf Penfold, is delivering a contemporary tapas-style menu of small plates made from quality produce. The dishes might sound slightly unusual, but you won't regret tucking into the likes of jerk quail or plates of salsify, goat curd, crispy kale and truffle honey. The small plates are served alongside a selection of perfect pizzas and homemade bar snacks, and puddings and homemade ice cream are also available. The Grace's Sunday lunches have already become a local institution, so it's a good idea to book ahead. With friendly service and an interesting, seasonally evolving menu, The Grace has all the ingredients for success
