Casa Mexicana Restaurant & Bar
I hardly recognised the place with its flower-filled bar area and leather sofas - which proved an ideal spot to sip excellent Margaritas - and the only problem on the horizon was choosing between so many tempting dishes on the menu. Although renowned for more traditional Mexican dishes such as nachos and fajitas, there are also some more adventurous offerings on the menu. Spiced pumpkin, spinach and coconut milk soup was racy and nourishing, whilst tequila-cured salmon with pickled fennel was seriously scrummy. The slow-braised lamb shank with baby chorizo was another resounding success, with the lamb just falling off the bone. I wouldn't usually have room for dessert, but the homemade meringue with orange mascarpone and mixed berries beckoned - simply delicious. All in all we had an excellent night, with friendly and efficient service and a meal to die for. No wonder this is still considered one of Bristol's best venues for affordable fine dining.
